You should back up the affected files before you install this patch. For more information, see "Applying the patch," below. |
To install this patch:
- Log in as root.
- Download the archive to your / directory.
- Extract the archive you downloaded:
tar -xvf patch-QNX4-0001-security-patch.tar
- Next, you must incorporate the patch into your host system; see below.
Applying the patch
The patch is stored in a directory (or folder) that's separate from your existing development system:
/patches/QNX4-0001/
The QNX4-0001 directory includes the following:
- version
- Includes the patch number and the build information.
- manifest
- Contains the checksums of the files shipped in the patch (as generated by the cksum utility).
- shiplist
- A list of the files included in the patch.
- usr/tcprt/4.25/usr/ucb/slinger, usr/tcprt/5.0/usr/ucb/slinger
- The new software delivered in the patch.
To apply the patch, you need to copy the new files on top of the old ones in your development system.

Since this is a destructive procedure, we recommend that you create a backup of the affected files. |
As this patch targets both TCP/IP Runtime 4.25 and 5.0, it includes a binary for both versions. You need to apply only the binary appropriate for the version of the TCP/IP Runtime that you're using on your machine. To determine which version you're using, list the /usr/tcprt directory on your system:
ls -l /usr/tcprt
All the TCP/IP Runtime packages are installed to this location. If you see a 4.25 and a 5.0 subdirectory, look for the current link:
/usr/tcprt/current -> /usr/tcprt/...
This link points to the TCP/IP Runtime version currently in use. You need to apply the patch binary to this directory.
Making a backup
To create a backup on your host:
- cd /
- Make a backup copy of the files that will be overwritten:
cp /usr/tcprt/4.25/usr/ucb/slinger /patches/slinger-QNX4-0001-425.bak
Or:
cp /usr/tcprt/5.0/usr/ucb/slinger /patches/slinger-QNX4-0001-50.bak
Copying the files
To apply the patch:
- Go to the patch directory:
cd /patches/QNX4-0001
- Install the updates:
cp usr/tcprt/4.25/usr/ucb/slinger /usr/tcprt/4.25/usr/ucb/slinger
Or:
cp usr/tcprt/5.0/usr/ucb/slinger /usr/tcprt/5.0/usr/ucb/slinger
